Hello Veterans, Families, and Friends;
Thank you for coming out to our 5th Annual LIVCO Veterans Golf Classic 2026 - The Dwyer Cup event, and making it a success. It was great weather, great company, and even better camaraderie. Congratulations to Terry Schreiner and Harriet Kurtz for their win. We look forward to next year and hope to see everyone again with new teams in the mix as well. Congratulations to our 2026 Boots 2 Bees Veterans that have finished their first season of our basic beekeeping program. It was a pleasure to teach our new Veterans the art of beekeeping and we look forward to your continued journey with us at our advanced class next year if you choose, as well as welcoming a new class of Veterans to our 2027 Boots 2 Bees Basic Beekeeping Course starting in December. Registration is currently open and we hope to see a whole new group come out and join us.
Also, thank you to everyone who came out and supported M98 Honor Flight home. It was a first of it's kind bus trip for our Veterans that couldn't or didn't want to fly, in conjunction with the normal flight. We were able to collaborate and get 78 Veterans to D.C. on M98, coordinate travel of flights and bus to arrive home together and help them surpass 5,000 total Veterans served since they started Honor Flight Rochester. Whether you were a Veteran, guardian, volunteered to support, or just visited to pay respects, it was awesome to see the community come together and celebrate the Veterans for their sacrifices. It was very powerful to see the community respond and show up for each other. Thank you!
With that, our days are getting shorter and the nights longer. The leaves are transitioning and beginning to fall and the temperature begins to cool. We are transitioning to our cold weather activities and encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the last of our warm days and enjoy the colors of fall as we look forward to winter. We have attached and published our November calendar and hope that everyone finds something to sign up for and enjoy. We will continue the expansion of our metal art program and enhance our Poppy Monument project, as well as the Veteran Tranquil Trail with new metal art creations by our, "Warrior's Welding." Please look for our metal art program starting in November. We look forward to seeing our Veterans out at the studio and making new art for our Veteran monuments and trails.
As we slip into the winter months and Holiday season, please remember to reach out to your battle buddies and ensure they are doing okay. This is the time of year that we tend to struggle the most and it is important that we all know we are not alone and that we have each others back during these times. I hope that all is well with everyone and that you receive all the blessings and good fortune throughout our upcoming holiday season. We look forward to seeing you all out and about as we wind down fall and plow into to winter. If you need any assistance please do not hesitate to reach out, we will do everything we can to support you through whatever you may be dealing with. Remember, surprises are for birthdays and bad news does not get better with time!
Finally, after hearing feedback from Veterans, we will continue to plan our events with a maximum capacity number for each one, with an open,"request a seat" window for them on our calendar. Once the window closes, typically seven days prior to the event, we then go through the prioritization criteria and send out the confirmation emails, or wait list emails if we are over our maximum planned capacity. Our goal is to ensure everyone has a chance to go to the scheduled activity they want to attend, however please understand that our programs, events, and activities are not first come first serve. We prioritize attendance based off the following list (in order);
1: Livingston County Veterans, first time participants
2: Livingston County Veterans, no matter how many events participated in.
3: Any County Veterans, first time participants
4: Any County Veterans, no matter how many events participated in.
New York State funds all 62 counties to facilitate a PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Program. The NYS Dwyer Coalition website has information about what the Dwyer Program is, our mission, and more importantly, an interactive NY State Map with click-able counties linked to the organization running the Dwyer Program in that county, https://josephpdwyerpeerproject.org/dwyer-counties. It is a one stop shop for all of NYS Dwyer Programs, if you do not see information linked in your County, please reach out to your County Veteran Services Agency or Office of Mental Health and inquire. They should know how the program is being executed in your county. Again, this is our (all Veterans) program, if you are looking for specific information, your counties elected officials, Office of Mental Health or Veteran Service Agencies should be able to steer you in the right direction to find your local Dwyer Program and link you up with the services, programs, events, or activities being provided in your area for all Veterans.
