Hello Veterans, Families, & Friends;
As Memorial Day approaches, the weight of the holiday often brings a mix of emotions. It is a time deeply rooted in remembrance, but it can also be a challenging time for many of us still here. First and foremost, this weekend is about honoring our brothers and sisters who made the ultimate sacrifice. We hold space to honor their sacrifices, for their memory, their service, and the void they left behind. They are never forgotten.
However, I also want to focus on us. We must remember the best way to honor our fallen brother's and sister's is by living fully and looking out for those who made it home. For many veterans, this weekend can bring up difficult memories, survivor’s guilt, or a sense of isolation. I want to encourage everyone to use this time to show up for each other.
Reassess: Take a moment to check in with yourself. It’s okay if you are struggling. Acknowledging your own needs is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Reconnect: Reach out to that teammate you haven’t spoken to in a while. A simple text, call, or coffee can make all the difference.
Reintegrate: We often isolate when we struggle, but finding connection within our community, whether that’s fellow veterans, family, or friends is crucial.
If you are struggling, please know you are not alone. Showing up for each other is the best way we can honor those we’ve lost. Let’s make sure we are checking on our brothers and sisters, and not hesitating to ask for support when we need it. We stand ready to help and assist any way we can, it starts with reaching out and asking for help.
It is an honor to walk among all of you who have sacrificed so much for us to enjoy the freedoms so many take for granted. Wishing you a meaningful and supportive Memorial Day weekend.
Thank You,
Bob Wolter
